Transcription Notation for Genealogy
The
traditional techniques for transcribing anomalies in source records have
several limitations that make them unreliable for genealogical purposes. In
particular, editorial comments enclosed in brackets consist largely of
arbitrary comments which can be interpreted in various ways. In addition,
comments are language-dependent and not very concise. This paper describes
a formalized notation that overcomes many of the limitations of the
traditional notation:
